The long-tailed weasel is reddishbrown with buff underparts and throat, with a black tip to its long tail. The short-tailed weasel (also known as the ermine) has a shorter tail and is colored similarly except for its white feet. In winter, the short-tailed weasel becomes white except for the tail tip. Both are nocturnal and solitary, are excellent climbers, and due to their shape can slip into burrows to attack rodents living within. They also hunt rabbits, birds, eggs, and fish.
