HH Only in high mountains, 1,600–3,300m. Prefers shady, dense forest (evergreen broadleaf and coniferous), but also secondary forest, scrub and bamboo. ID  elegant, long-tailed (49–53cm). Almost entirely steely blue-black with deep blue scallops on mantle, scapulars and rump, and prominent white wingbar on otherwise blue-black wings, and narrower white tips to secondaries and tertials.
